pictures of the floating world
The purpose of Pictures of The Floating World is to capture the moments of atmosphere and light when the woods take on a magical spirit. Behind those magical moments is a tangle of chaos. Plant life is captured in every stage of growth from the final stages of deterioration to the initial stages of birth. I explore the same wooded areas over and over with my camera waiting for the days when the familiar and ordinary is elevated to something exquisite. I believe strongly that beauty is all around us each and every day. It is not necessary to go to distant places or extremes to find beauty. I captured beauty which I found in public parks on well worn hiking trails. I recorded the woods as I saw them: dark, mysterious, and alluring. The woods is a constant companion to me, and I continue to photograph in the very same woods. With the changes of the seasons and the changes from year to year the perspective never stays the same. I go the woods because I am soothed by the woods, finding and capturing the beauty of the woods is my challenge.
